Kevin, an Abbey Grammar past-pupil, had been invited to address parents, teachers and pupils on his time at the Abbey and his years since leaving in 1986. Kevin reflected on his days at the school and how they had been some of the most memorable of his life. He noted how the Abbey had in recent years, under the stewardship of Headmaster Dermot McGovern, become one of the leading grammar schools in N. Ireland with its pupils regularly achieving the top accolades in the province’s annual examination results.
Kevin commended the GCSE recipients and award winners on their hard work and success to date but cautioned pupils not to lose sight of the wider educational possibilities outside of academia. He encouraged students to complete their education, travel where possible and to experience various work opportunities both at home and abroad. He also invited those who might discover they had a particular leaning towards the glamorous industry of wastewater treatment to consider FM Environmental as a potential employer in the future!
