Over 190 young people took part in an environmental competition in Kirovsk Russia which was initiated two years ago by FM Environmental as part of their involvement in the “Show Children the World Project”.
The competition this year had the support of the local Council and the young people were assisted by about forty parents and grandparents.
The mayor of Kirovsk, Vladimir Shaposhnik, thanked FM Environmental for encouraging young people to take pride in their town and hoped that next year the competition would be extended to include an adult section.
In presenting the awards to the finalists at the Cultural Palace, Kirovsk, the Chairman of FM Environmental, Eamonn Fitzpatrick, said some of the work carried out by the young people was excellent, especially that of the winners. This was a group of 12 years of age from School No. 7 who did some great work cleaning up an orphanage building and making it more comfortable for its inhabitants.
Kirovsk City is twinned with Newry and is in North West Russia above the Artic Circle. It is now experiencing polar nights and a temperature of minus 10.
