Banbridge WWTW – Job Completed!
FM Environmental recently completed the installation and commissioning of a new Grit Plant in Banbridge WWTW.
The driver for this project was to remove grit / gravel / stones, as much as possible from the influent, to avoid un-necessary deterioration of down stream equipment, such as the FFT Pumps and other assets.
The new Grit Plant, which was constructed off-line, involved a substantial dig (>9m excavation depth), lower and upper concrete chamber construction, through-flow and by-pass channel construction, and specially fabricated DN700 pipe connections, to allow integration into the pre-existing pipeline.
This was followed by full MEICA installation of the grit paddle, motor, gearbox and walkway, isolation penstocks, flooring, handrail, air-lift blower, Grit Classifier, control panel and all associated wiring.
Following full installation, commissioning flows were diverted through the new Grit Plant with initial signs being very good, with good volumes of grit being removed.
This project was a collaborative success with input from NI Water, McAdam Design, FM Environmental and Lowry Building and Civil Engineering.
FM Environmental would also like to thank their supply chain, Jacopa, Pronto Automation and M&M Steel Fabrications and also acknowledge their own Project Management staff and site team, who contributed greatly to the overall project.

Tandragee WWTW – Sludge Thickening Plant & PST Half Bridge Scrapers
FM Environmental are delighted to have completed another project for NI Water, which will enhance Sludge Thickening operations.
Having installed a number of Huber S-Disc 2 Sludge Thickeners, on other sites within the Southern region of Northern Ireland, this time the old Sludge Thickeners were replaced in Tandragee WWTW and new modern, state-of-the-art Thickeners installed.
This was a challenging project, in that the new Thickeners had to be installed within the confines of the pre-existing sludge building, while also minimising time without any mechanical thickening facilities.
Following installation, commissioning and a 28-day trial period the new S-Disc 2 Thickeners are achieving excellent %% Sludge Dry Solids figures, which is subsequently reducing tanker costs for and thus saving the client money.
As part of the same contract the PST Half Bridge Scrapers and associated controls and Cabling, were replaced to enhance primary sludge removal.
This project was a collaborative success with input from NI Water, McAdam Design, FM Environmental and Lowry Building and Civil Engineering.
FM Environmental would also like to thank their supply chain, Huber Technology, Pronto Automation, M&M Steel Fabrications and GSE and also acknowledge their own Project Management staff and site team, who contributed greatly to the overall project.
