Health & Safety Excellence achieved
FM Environmental is proud to be able to claim 2012 as a year free of Reportable Accidents, as defined by the HSE and according to RIDDOR.
Considering that FM Environmental staff operate and install in a number of hazardous working conditions, such as in confined spaces, contact with electricity and water (not simultaneously of course), building site, working at heights, and operating in locations at risk of Weils Disease, this is no small achievement.
We will continue to build on this success to maintain our faultless performance, guarding against complacency.
We will continue to apply sound Health and Safety practices in our everyday working lives. In particular the use and application of Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) are standard on contracts which form part of our OHSAS 18001 Health and Safety Management System, as well as our ISO9001 Quality System, we are obliged to provide RAMS on all contracts we work on.
Furthermore, Some of our clients such as Northern Ireland Water, operate using the ‘Take 2’ approach to Risk Assessments i.e. when returning to a site a second or third time, a further assessment on potential risks or hazards is made as site conditions can often change from one day to the next. This seems a logical and practical approach to Risk Assessments and the Company is to apply the same approach to ALL our contracts. RAMS will be modified to include a ‘Take 2’ section which engineers are to note and complete.
We look forward to continuing Best Practice for the safety of both FM Environmental staff as well as other persons that may be on site.

FM Environmental’s 2012 Olympic legacy
2012 saw not only our involvement in the grease management, but also more specialist equipment being employed in the reinstatement of the canals and waterways around the venues. FM Environmental supplied 2no 5.5 kW Aspiro floating aerators, mounted on pontoons, which were used to help aerate a 4 km stretch of the River Lea and the adjoining canals during the dredging process. The importance of the aspiros aerators was highlighted by maintaing sufficient oxygen in the river and canals to permit the native fish and plant populations to continue to thrive during the desilting process. This was achieved with the added benefit of little surface agitation, therefore nuisance aerasols were prevented from being released.
Manufactured by Australian company, PCPL, the Aspiro has been used widely for simultaneous mixing and from canal aeration to oxidation ditches to lagoons and concentric tanks. FM Environmental have been are the UK & Ireland distributors and installers and can provide specialist advice for projects

Grease Guardian service training -London
FM Environmental has long considered the aftercare of its products to be esential to the long-term future of the company and its future. As part of this philosophy, FM Environmental gathered its London service partners at the new offices to provide refresher courses on the servicing requirements and customer expectations.
Over the period of a few days, the process proved invaluable as a means of gathering market perceptions and customer behaviour information, which in turn allows us to provide a well defined packaged to future clients.
Our exciting future plans were discussed with our partners, and we are confident of being able to provide a strong local support to our clients.
FM Environmental would like to thank all those who participated in the event, as well as those who help to make the event possible. We thank you for your past and future support.

FM Environmental to install membrane bioreactor for nursing home
For nearly the past 4 years, FM Environmental has been working together with a Nursing Home in County Meath, Ireland, to deliver a satisfactory environmental package as part of the Nursing Home building extension.
Located in a very environmentally sensitive area, with a high water table, FM Environmental, together with consultant engineers, surveyed and designed a treatment system to permit the discharge of wastewaters, using Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) technology. The consultation process actively engaged with the local authority, Meath County Council, to ensure complete approval and understanding of the installation, operating and maintenance requirements.
Simplicity of design was one of the key considerations, without the need for complicated civil works. Having supplied the precast concrete tanks for primary, aeration and membrane treatment, FM Environmental will carry out the key mechanical & electrical installation works including the installation of 1mm fine screening, dosing and membrane suction pumps, blowers, fine bubble diffusers, chemical clean baths, controls and operating logic, final effluent pump chamber and pumps and the membranes module itself.
One of FM Environmental’s smaller MBR, When completed, this MBR will look after the wastewater needs of the 55 residents and staff members to safely discharge to a design standard of :
BOD 5mg/l,
Suspended Solids 5mg/l
Ammonia as N: 5mg/l
Total Nitrogen as N: 10mg/l
Total Phosphate as P: 0.5mg/l
FOG: 5mg/l
